๐Ÿš€ โ€‹The Elephant in the Technical SEO Room

We love to talk about the latest trends and shiny new SEO tactics, but still today, this right here is still No. 1 challenge for technical SEOs: Lack of implementation.

From the 166 responses so far in the SEOFOMO Technical SEO Survey, most SEOs say they only see from 40% to 60% of their tech SEO recommendations implemented (here's the screenshot).

When describing the reasons for technical SEO recommendations execution getting delayed or not implemented, the most popular ones so far are resource constraints, prioritization Issues and lack of understanding or buy-in. A few key skills and activities that certainly help to address them are:

  • Learning how to communicate with non-tech decision makers in terms they actually care about, which are the company business and revenue goals - translating your SEO recommendations, strategies and objectives accordingly. Start getting comfortable with SEO forecasting, SEO tests and pilot projects to make cases if you haven't yet.
  • Aligning your SEO strategy with the company's product triangle: business, marketing and features, to ensure support from other areas stakeholders
  • Communicating the trade-off of not doing what you're recommending: the additional revenue that will be lost, how much the same traffic and conversions would cost if you were doing PPC (and how cheaper it's to do SEO in the long-term in comparison), or the market share you'll lose vs competitors
