⚡️ The Latest News & Updated in SEO & AI Search [SEOFOMO - July 26, 2026]
A US federal court dismissed Google’s two DMCA claims against SerpApi. The portion concerning results without copyrighted content was dismissed permanently, while Google has 21 days to amend the part involving copyrighted material. The outcome could affect SEO and AI visibility tools that rely on automated access to public SERP data.
Yelp is licensing its reviews, ratings, photos and local business information to OpenAI for use in ChatGPT recommendations. Yelp’s "Request a Quote" feature is also expected to let users contact providers from the chat, bringing local discovery, recommendation and conversion into the same AI experience.
Publishers are questioning whether feeding Google is still worth the traffic
Reddit, Politico, and other publishers are evaluating whether to continue giving Google access to their content as its AI-generated answers change referral traffic and publisher revenue. The underlying question is simple: what do publishers receive in return for powering the answer?
Crawl capacity expands when demand increases and the site stays healthy
Google has clarified that every site starts with the same conservative crawl capacity limit. When there’s demand to crawl more and the site remains healthy, Google’s systems adjust it automatically. The practical focus remains maintaining server health and making important, updated URLs easy to discover.
Bot challenges can make Google index protection screen instead of your page
John Mueller warns that bot challenge screens can be indexed in place of a site’s actual content. Because many sites display the same challenge, Google may treat the pages as duplicates and select another site as canonical. Check your CDN and WAF settings!

Frameworks built on real enterprise AEO data—not generic advice
Daniel covers what he considers the most important SEO factors for 2026, organized around accessibility, rendering, user behavior, content quality and site level signals. A comprehensive checklist, with the usual caveat that no public ranking factor list can fully describe how Google’s systems work.
SEO at scale is a product and engineering challenge too
Gianluca Fiorelli, Roxana Stingu / Advanced Web Ranking
Gianluca and Roxana discuss enterprise crawl strategy, image optimization and internal site search, showing how technical SEO connects with engineering, product decisions, business priorities and user behavior after the click. A wide ranging conversation about making SEO work effectively at scale.
MCP servers can remove repetitive steps from SEO research
Gus explains what MCP is, how to install and configure servers from SEO tools, and how to use them to accelerate previously manual research workflows. A useful introduction for SEOs looking to connect AI assistants more directly with their tools and data.
Not every technical SEO issue deserves developer time
Helen explains how to distinguish technical issues that affect crawling, indexing, rendering or business outcomes from low impact cleanup. A useful framework for deciding what genuinely deserves limited developer resources and what can safely wait.
Freelance SEO means running a business, not only doing SEO
Nick shares the unpolished reality of becoming an SEO freelancer: choosing services, finding and qualifying clients, pricing work, protecting scope, getting paid and delivering recommendations clients can actually use. A practical guide from someone who has built the business himself.
Search visibility increasingly rewards content that anticipates needs
Mikael explains how search is adopting more of a creator-led discovery model, in which content reaches users at different moments, shapes demand and helps create the next need. The strategic shift is to map and support the full audience journey, not only the query.
Collecting more data won’t help if you haven’t defined the decisions it should support
Bengü explains how to define success, identify the questions the business needs answered, map meaningful behaviors, select the right data sources and decide what not to measure. Only then should the measurement framework become a GA4 implementation brief.
Aleyda Solis, Myriam Jessier, Andy Chadwick, Dan Taylor / Crawling Mondays
In the second episode of the AI Search Roadmap series, Aleyda, Myriam, Andy and Dan cover the principles, process, dos and don’ts of building representative and cost-effective AI Search audience and prompt research.
AI search is fragmenting, and the relationship between mentions, citations and traffic keeps getting messier
Similarweb uses real user data to show which AI platforms are gaining ground, how search behavior is changing, and how citations, referrals and advertising are reshaping discovery. A must-read report.
Supplier copy gives AI no reason to treat your product page as original source
Gentian analyzed 8,573 product descriptions across 1,000 Shopify stores, then ran 60 real buying questions through Google's AI Mode, ChatGPT, and Perplexity to see who gets cited. The result? A product page written once, in the store's own words and your brand voice, for the buyer and the AI model alike, gives an LLM what a supplier paragraph syndicated to fifteen channels never can: a reason to treat one page as the origin.
Winning one prompt doesn’t mean your brand owns the topic
Semrush and Kevin analyzed more than 50,000 brands across 1,094 ChatGPT topic clusters. Only 15.2% had a clear category owner, while brands leading by at least five percentage points retained first place in 90% of MoM comparisons. This shows the importance of measuring visibility across related prompts and journey stages, not through isolated prompt wins.
Josh Grant Webinar - 30 day AI search pipeline recovery sprint
Traffic from AI search is growing, but most teams haven't figured out how to turn it into pipeline. Comparison pages, pricing pages, and feature pages either aren't getting cited or aren't converting when they are.
On August 5 at 2pm ET, Josh Grant, founder of StackedGTM and former VP of Growth at Webflow, joins AirOps' Josh Spilker for a tactical session on the plays that turn AEO into revenue this quarter. Josh is known for sharp, practical thinking on answer ownership and the conversion moves B2B teams can make right now.
You'll learn:
Why AEO can be a short horizon conversion sprint, not just a future proofing project
Why comparison pages are one of the fastest ways to capture mid-funnel AI search demand
How third party corroboration from sites like G2, Capterra, and Reddit strengthens on site messaging
What belongs in an executive ready measurement stack when last touch attribution misses AI's real influence
