πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ This week's Aleyda's SEO Take

Is your (established) Website an unintentional rankings hoarder? A heads up...

12 days have already passed since Google's March 2024 Core and Spam Updates release and although we've been warned that in this case, due to the nature of the updates, they would take longer than usual to fully roll out, there are already clear search visibility shifts in established, high authority players such as Reddit or Quora, that had also been benefited by some of the last year's updates.

When taking a look at the top queries for which these well established sites like Reddit, Quora or Home Depot have dropped (so far) in rankings since a week ago I (unsurprisingly) saw many very broad queries for which they were in top positions with content not really that helpful in that broad context to fulfill users' search needs.

Resources to facilitate your potential rankings drop analysis...

I feel this is a good time to share again this flowchart about "What to do when hit by a Google Core Update".

Especially relevant when you work for established sites that will tend to "hoard" broader terms rankings that are not that meaningful to rank and attract traffic from, and which were not really part of the site SEO strategy or goals in the first place.

This might also be already a good time to review your rankings too! Check out these SEO resources:

⚑ Ahrefs Keyword Clustering

If you need to group keywords with the same or similar intent – you need a Keyword Clustering tool. With it you can target these groups of keywords with one page instead of creating multiple pages to target each keyword separately.

With the recent update to Ahrefs' UI clustering became easier and made it super convenient to group hundreds of thousands of keywords into relevant clusters.
