This survey results offer a comprehensive look at the current state of technical SEO, highlighting common challenges, preferred tools, and anticipated trends for the coming year. Letβs review the top 15 insights:
The majority say that itβs now as hard (32%) or harder (31%) to achieve technical SEO goals vs two years ago.
Most tech SEO recommendations take between 4-6 weeks (24%), followed by 2 to 4 weeks (21%) to get executed.
Most SEOs (29%) only see between 40% to 60% of their tech SEO recommendations implemented.
Technical SEO efforts are still highly (42%) or moderately (42%) impactful to SEO goals.
Most tech SEOs develop monthly (28%), followed by quarterly (27%) technical SEO audits
The majority use a mix of desktop and cloud based crawlers (45%)
Most SEOs use between 2 to 3 crawlers in tech SEO audits (67%)
The majority (42%) pre-schedule crawls to automate validations of site configurations
Most (47%) also use SEO alerting tools to be notified whenever a configuration has changed
The majority (44%) validate tech SEO executions in a test environment before theyβre released
Only 23% of SEOs enable JS rendering when crawling the site +90% of the crawls
The most popular tools used for Technical SEO tasks are the Google Search Console (24.6%), Screaming Frog (24.4%), Ahrefs (12.8%), Semrush (12.6%) and Sitebulb (6.3%).
Most SEOs use Jira (19.8%), Slack (11.52%) and Google Sheets (9.22%) when coordinating SEO implementations with Developers or Product teams.
The most common reasons for technical SEO recommendations execution getting delayed or not implemented are: Resource Constraints (Development/IT Bandwidth), Prioritization Issues, Lack of Understanding or Buy-In (From Stakeholders/Management), Budget Constraints, Technical Complexity, Internal Communication & Workflow Issues.
The Top Technical SEO related functionalities that SEOs wish to have are: AI-Driven Recommendations & Predictive Analysis, Enhanced Real-Time Reporting & Visualization, More comprehensive and automated analysis of JavaScript-rendered content.
